Asparagus! That brings back an old memory. Many years ago, living in New York City and participating in an urban farm, we carefully and lovingly planted asparagus. As we worked and and anticipated the harvest, we were strongly lectured on NOT picking the first crop! OK, we waited, and waited and waited … We never saw a single shoot! There was no explanation. The asparagus just did not grow! That ended that! every other vegetable we planted grew and provided for the gardners.
It makes for a good memory!
