A rumor got started once that someone was going to buy the plot of ground across from us (inside the village limits) and raise a bunch of chickens. At the next village board meeting they passed an ordinance outlawing all fowl, except canaries & parakeets and such in cages in the house. Waived the three readings. Someone “influential” had complained. I know the people who were looking at that property and really all they wanted was a place big enough for a big garden and about a dozen laying hens. Just so they could raise some of their own fresh food. So now you can have chickens in the middle of New York City but not in my little tiny Nebr. town of less than 400 people.
